A patch of land. A stretch of sky. Bricks, beams; an open door. How can a space hold the stories of so many, and do those echoes remain once they are gone?
Traversing time from the 1860's to now, 21 FORSTER ST is the story of a unique heritage home in the regional town of Bungendore. With a rich history of occupants that includes farmers, artists and multiple generations of cockatoos, the work peels back layers of history to explore the intimacy and enormity of the private architecture of our worlds. Why do objects go missing in this house? Is there really a bone-room under the ancient mulberry tree? And can a young woman who said goodbye to her father under the stained glass windows surrender this house that has imprinted itself on her forever?
Combining original music by John Shortis OAM and text by award-winning novelist Inga Simpson, this meditation on space, time and memory explores our universal relationships to the places we call home.
